The most effective Karate moves are found in kata bunkai (i.e. throws, joint locks, choke holds). These practical techniques are from Okinawa - the birthplace of Karate. But rarely do you see them in modern Japanese styles. The reason is because we have misunderstood the traditional role of kata applications and how to use bunkai in a real fight.
