Tekki Shodan (鉄騎初段) – The Iron Horse Kata Watch this powerful Tekki Shodan performance in the preliminary rounds of the 66th JKA All Japan Karate Championship! 💥 Tekki Shodan is one of the most iconic Shotokan katas, known for its deep-rooted stances, sharp movements, and strong hip control. It is entirely performed in Kiba Dachi (horse-riding stance), requiring incredible balance, core strength, and lower body stability. Originally part of a three-kata series (Tekki Shodan, Nidan, and Sandan), this kata was once called Naihanchi and is believed to have roots in Okinawan and Chinese martial arts. It focuses on close-range combat principles, including powerful blocking, elbow strikes, and lateral movement—a true test of strength and discipline! 🔥 JKA Competition Insight: At the JKA All Japan Karate Championship, competitors must demonstrate technical precision, explosive power (kime), and perfect rhythm in their kata execution. Only the best move forward to the next rounds!
