That's NOT Karate!

By Practical Kata Bunkai on

https://www.iainabernethy.co.uk/ One of the strangest and most interesting bits of feedback I get is the claim that some of the things I share are “not karate”. I find it strange because I am a karateka to the core. I find it interesting because it reveals there are some who feel their definition of “karate” is the universal one that all karateka should adopt. In this video I explore where these erroneous definitions of “karate” come from. I also explain why these definitions are not valid when contrasted against the history of karate, how it was practised, how it is practised, and how the label “karate” has been used. As always, agree or disagree, I hope you find the video interesting.
