Two Pad-Drills: one solo, one with a partner

By Practical Kata Bunkai on

https://www.iainabernethy.co.uk/ This video shares the summary footage for two pad drills I recently taught at a seminar. The first is a partner drill which covers a wide range of methods. This one is more “fighting” based i.e. is primarily based on methods one would use when engaged in consensual combat with another martial artist. It’s a fun drill which, when repeated several times, also has a conditioning component. It also allows for the practise of numerous methods in a time efficient way. The second drill is a solo pad drill which is more self-defence focussed i.e. based on the methods one would use when facing non-consensual criminal violence. Again, when repeated several times, with sufficient intensity and aggression, this one also has a conditioning component. Solo pad drills are useful for the times where one does not have a partner to work with. It always bugs me when I need to write the following, but such is the state of much of internet discussion on the martial arts, but these are not the only ways such methods are drilled. Such drills are done in addition to a whole host of other drills including partner work, live drills, etc. This is a five-minute clip is taken from two days of teaching. It therefore is not intended to be compete instruction, but I nevertheless hope those who understand what is being shared (and what is not) find the video interesting. You are the ones I make and share these for :-) All the best, Iain Shop: https://iainabernethy.co.uk/shop/ My Newsletter: https://www.iainabernethy.co.uk/join-newsletter-and-get-two-free-e-books My App: https://iainabernethy.co.uk/iain-abernethys-applied-karate-kata-bunkai-app
